By: Abui Akrobotu (GTV)

Mrs. Laura Bush and Mrs. Theresa Kuffuor yesterday visited the Maamobi Polyclinic in Accra to participate in a cooking demonstration aimed at improving the nutritional status of Ghanaian children and the treatment of malaria bed nets.

The visit to the Maamobi Polyclinic was characterized by pomp and perfectly with Ghanaian culture at its best. It was a kind of break for relaxation for Mrs. Laura Bush and Mrs. Kuffuor after a hectic morning schedule.

Mrs. Bush’s visit is seen as an opportunity to review at first hand progress o f US programme in the country, aimed at promoting economic development, enhancing maturational status of children, eradicating malaria and other treatable diseases in Africa.

The Bush Administration is providing five point two million mosquito nets as part of sub-Saharan African campaign to reduce the prevalence of malaria on the continent.

According to a UN report Malaria is the main cause of death for African children killing a child every thirty seconds. It is against this background that the treatment of bed nets to reduce malaria becomes paramount.

Mrs. Theresa Kuffuor acknowledges Mrs. Bush’s interest in nutrition and malaria, which she said passes challenges to the socio-economic development of the country.

There was a demonstration on how to eradicate malaria by children from Hope Foundation School in Tema.

The 2007 American Idol Jordan Spark is also part of Mrs. Bush’s entourage. She is supporting the eradication of malaria.
