BIOMAS studyto control respiratory infections in Ghana

By: Theresa Owusu Ako (G.B.C. Radio)

The use of charcoal and firewood know as biomas fuels are contributing largely to respiratory diseases in children and women according to a World Bank report.

To find out how serious the problem is a study is being carried out to assess the level of smoke emissions during cooking especially in rural areas.

The study is by the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) and the Biomas Working Group at the Columbia University. A Clinical Research Fellow at the KHRC, Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante, made this known to G.B.C Radio.
