World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day
This event is marked annually on 30 January the world over.
“#BeatNTDs: For good. For all” is the slogan aiming to gather support and build momentum for a decisive year of action against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)
One in five people worldwide are at risk of NTDs, which generally affect the poorest 1·6 billion people living in the most marginalised communities, resulting in substantial disability, stigma, and loss of livelihood, in addition to the deaths caused.
Lymphatic filariasis, dracunculiasis, trachoma, dengue, and snake bite envenoming are just some of the NTDs that cause substantial disease burdens.
