Vice President of the Gambia meets Ammren Gambia Executives

The executive committee of the African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) Gambia Chapter, yesterday, paid a courtesy call on the vice-president, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, in her office at State House, Banjul.

The delegation was led to State House by AMMREN country coordinator, Mr Pa Modou Faal, who briefed the vice-president on the activities of AMMREN, as a sub-regional body and the national chapter.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Faal told the vice-president that AMMREN is a network of journalists, scientists and health workers, working to eradicate the scourge of malaria in the continent. He said the network focuses mainly on the dissemination of updates and information on malaria initiatives, as well as participating in monitoring and implementing malaria policies in Africa.   “AMMREN also advocates and engages policy makers to implement international agreements on malaria control, to further complement governments efforts,”  he added.

AMMREN LAUNCHES A NEWS MAGAZINE CALLED "EYES ON MALARIA"

 

The first edition of “Eyes On Malaria” a news magazine of the African Media and Malaria Research Network, AMMREN has been launched in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The magazine was launched by Dr. Hassan Mshinda, (Director of the Ifakara Health Research & Development Centre, Tanzania).

The Eyes on Malaria magazine is a 32-page publication by the African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN). It will be published quarterly, in full colour, glossy paper with occasional special editions.

 

AMMREN CELEBRATES WORLD MALARIA DAY

The African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) has celebrated the 1st World Malaria Day in a grand style. Four of its member countries, namely, Ghana, Mozambique, Senegal and the Gambia organised series of activities to draw the world’s attention to the fact that malaria can be eradicated.

CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR THE  SECOND EDITION
OF “EYES ON MALARIA” MAGAZINE

THEME: Malaria and Malaria Research in Africa

We wish to invite all interested African journalists to contribute articles relating to the above theme to be published in the “Eyes on Malaria” Magazine. The “Eyes on Malaria” magazine is a flagship magazine of AMMREN.

African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) is a network of African journalists and scientists working together to eradicate malaria in Africa. It has a membership of about 50 and is in 10 African countries. Its primary purpose is to promote malaria research communication in Africa through strengthening the capacity of African journalists in Africa.

 

Swedish agency offers training opportunities to African journalists

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency has announced vacancies for the 2008 Seminar on Journalism and Democracy at the Institute for Further Education of Journalists, Fojo in Sweden. Journalists from six African countries, including; Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Rwanda, and Somalia are eligible for the course. .
