About the Workshop
Even
though malaria continue to pose an important public health
problem in Africa, there is little effective reporting ongoing on
the threat created by the disease. AMMREN has identified the inadequate provision of information to
journalists as one of the reasons for the poor reporting on malaria
in Africa. The Media Training Workshop on
Reporting on Malaria Research in Africa will equip journalists with the right tools for
effective malaria reporting and programming in Africa.
The objectives of the workshop are:
-
To build the capacity of journalists to
effectively report on malaria research initiatives in Africa.
-
To form a critical mass of journalists to
cover important events at malaria vaccine trial sites in
Africa.
-
To step up advocacy on malaria
control and preventions in Africa
-
To strengthen collaboration between
journalists and malaria research scientists in
Africa
-
To developed country specific action plans/ Media strategy
on malaria reporting
-
To launch the newly established Africa
Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN)
